Viewing the Aurora is a whole other story! I am located at 55 degrees north magnetic latitude, and when the Kp Index/Activity Level actually gets high enough it's always cloudy. HI HI!
Use the tables below to find out what level the Kp Index or the activity level must be in order to view the Aurora. Your magnetic latitude can be found using this map.
The current Magnetic Activity Level is displayed on the left side of the NOAA POES Auroral oval Map at the top of this page. The current Kp can be found here.
(Ex. The kp would have to be >5 while the Activity Level would have to be >9 in order for me to see the Aurora.)
